Programs and Services

Mental health challenges have come to the world’s attention more in the last three years than at any other moment in history. The isolation created by the COVID-19 Pandemic has caused a 21% increase in anxiety and depression in the last year alone. According to NAMI “1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year. 1 in 20 adults experiences serious mental illness each year. 1 in 6 youth between 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year.” Suicide is the second leading cause of death for children between 10-14 and adults between 25-34.

Communities Voices is a nonprofit corporation founded and run by female BIPOC peers. Peers are people with lived experience in the journey of recovery from mental illness, substance use, or both. The services we will provide to our communities are intended to assist with maintaining mental health, fill the gap between mental health services and relieve the strain on overwhelmed mental health service providers. All services provided will be free. As a nonprofit, our funding comes from donations and grants.

Counseling

(currently 7:00 AM-7:00 PM)

Our goal is to have Peer Counselors available at any time to provide Peer Counseling services to members of our communities through chat, phone, or video conferencing. We believe having this accessibility will help relieve stress and maintain good mental health practices. People need access to mental health services at any time, not just during regular business hours. With our conversational platform, Californians will be able to reach us through social media channels including Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and SMS. If you would like to schedule a session, check out our booking page.

Groups

Peer Counselors run weekly support groups and skills-building groups. We are working on putting together online forums to share information and share resources. Our goal is to provide our communities with ways of decompressing, sharing their experiences, and what works for them in managing stress, self-care, addressing symptoms, etc. To tailor our groups to meet the needs of our communities, we are providing surveys. You can sign-up here.

Collaboration and Navigation Services

We understand how difficult it can be to navigate community and social services. We are collaborating with other nonprofits to share resources and increase our impact. Helping people connect with existing social and community services organizations that provide services to meet their needs is essential. It allows members of the public to tap into existing resources while assisting organizations in reaching their target audience. We will have regular meetings with local organizations to facilitate networking in a way that allows them to share information about the services they provide, sharing best practices, training, and information. If you would like to collaborate with us, fill out this form. If you would like assistance with services, please fill out this form.
